Love Your Birds

TV-Carpenter-Love-Your-Weekend-Blog

With winter approaching, birds will need some help and if you’re not already feeding your garden visitors, it’s a great time to start, offering extra food as natural sources become more scarce.

TV Carpenter Wayne Perrey, joined the Love Your Weekend team to show show to build your own bird table and bird feeder from scratch.

He used gravel boards for both jobs as it is a durable exterior timber that is pre-treated with preservative chemicals so it lasts outside.

The bird feeder was quite a simple construction using just 3 pieces of wood cut at easy angles and with 3 old metal food tins. Wayne gave the tins a thorough clean then painted them with Thorndown Wood Paint in Grey Heron, Bishop Blue and Avalon Blue. He trimmed the top with a copper tape that is commonly used in the garden as a barrier to slugs, but also looks quite decorative!

You can also paint the wood sections with wood paint for extra external protection and to make them look pretty, or if you like the natural timber look you can paint on UV Clear which will protect the timber and stop the greying process for a couple of years.

If you’re feeling up to the challenge then how about making a bird table? Wayne made it look quite achievable and the end result would look gorgeous in the garden.

Love Your Garden

With Thorndown Wood Paint

Ben and I have been working with and supplying Love Your Garden from the very start of the hit ITV1 series, so when we started Thorndown we were delighted to be able to continue our relationship with the team and supply the programme with our Wood Paints.

In series 11 the team travelled to the home county of Thorndown to makeover two gardens in Taunton, Somerset.

Taking inspiration from stately homes, the team designed and built a new garden for Dunkirk Memorial House and one for the home manager. They commissioned local artist Jon Minshull (who painted the Avalon Marshes mural with Thorndown Wood Paint for the Glastonbury Mural Trail), ย to paint a Capability Brown landscape as a boundary focal point at the end of a pergola. A run-down part of the garden was transformed into an incredible place to sit and relax with a unique and stunning painting to admire.

Jon used Thorndown Wood Paints for the mural and the team painted the pergola and garden furniture with Launcherley Blue Wood Paint, an elegant and stately blue.

Mel’s garden was transformed into the most beautiful space with traditional planting, a borrowed landscape seen through a new natural hedge boundary, and new fencing painted in heritage tone Goddess Green.

Sheds Galore

We have an abundance of great shed shots and stories to share with you for inspiration for your project.

Thorndown Wood Paint is a popular choice for painting external timber buildings and products as it’s specifically engineered for exterior use. The acrylic resin used is one of the best on the market for water-based paints and creates a hard-wearing water-repellent coating in just 2 coats.

We use exterior grade VOC colour pigments that perform at the highest levels in weather-resistance and lightfast tests, so they don’t crash and fade but stay strong and true for years and years.

Emma Bailey (Instagrammer and YouTuber) shares her shed construction and painting in an entertaining video, so get inspired and plan your makeover or maintenance before winter comes.

New Adam & Eve Mural by Frank Harwood

Thorndown-Paint-Adam-and-Eve-Mural

Artist Frank Harwood has painted another mural for the Glastonbury Mural Trail with Thorndown Wood Paint.

This stunning new addition to the mural trail can be found on St Benedicts Close on the end wall of a row of terraced houses.

The detailing in the mural is amazing and it’s not surprising it took Frank a lot longer to paint than he’d thought, but he did also have the weather to content with!

The mural was commissioned to promote the sustainability campaign that Levi’s UK are running in collaboration with Haines Collection. The aim of the campaign is to promote a more sustainable approach to clothes and fashion, re-using and re-purposing old clothes rather than wearing for a season then throwing away.

They have joined forces with 6 designers so you can create bespoke pieces of up-cycled Levi’s clothing, running in-store until 16th August.

Garden Answers sneaky preview of 4 New Colours

Thorndown-Somerset-Heritage-Colour-Collection-Wood-Paint-blog

We are very excited to be adding 6 new colours to theย Somerset Heritage Colour Collection, being officially launched in March 2022.

These wild and natural tones bring an extra dimension to the beautiful greens, blues, creams and hedgerow colours of the Somerset Heritage Colour Collection.

However, Garden Answers are having aย sneaky preview of 4 of the new colours and theyโ€™re appearing in a colour feature in the July issue, which hits the shelves on 29th June 2021. So although these colours arenโ€™t officially being launched and added to the Wood Paint range until March 2022, weโ€™ll be adding these 4 new colours to the online shop in case readers fall in love and want to order them.

As with the existing 18 colours within the collection, these new colours are inspired by the Somerset countryside.ย Axe Blueย is a moody, smoky blue with a grey hue, reflecting the watery depths of the River Axe as it flows through Somerset on its journey to the English Channel.

The subtle grey green ofย Tree Lichenย is a beautifully gentle shade inspired by the lichen that is so prevalent in the southwest of England where the clean air provides the perfect environment for it to grow.

Whey Whiteย is a refreshingly natural cream fresh from the dairy farms of Somerset, andย Whortleberryย brings a deep dark purple plum colour to the collection, inspired by the wild blueberries of Somerset that go intoย Bumblees Preservesย Whortleberry jam.

The official launch of all new colours will take place at The Garden Press Event in London in March 2022 whereย Field Greenย andย Hartlake Blueย will be revealed.

Explore the wilds of Somerset withย Thorndown Wood Paints and discover new colours that youโ€™ll want throughout your home and garden.ย
