We can manufacture our wood paint range in any of the 1800 RAL Classic and RAL Design colours. To make ordering easier we have added many of the most popular RAL colours to our online shop, and have also added options to enable you to easily buy any colour from either RAL Classic or RAL Design.
We have also been having fun selecting our favourite colours from the RAL fan decks and have begun by adding our top selection of new greens to the online shop. Look in the RAL Classic and RAL Design sections to see all the new colours that are available to buy.
We’ll be adding more as we go but if you have a favourite you’d like to see on our shop, please contact us on studio@thorndown.co.uk
For us the garden festival season is now over. It’s been one mixed with rain,ย shine and plenty of plants. Although we weren’t at Woburn Abbey our Moorland Green wood paint made it down there and looked very regal in such a stunning setting.
The Glastonbury Mural Trail is now officially open with a freeย Glastonbury Mural Trailย map showing locations of all 26 murals taking place in the trail. The free brochure to accompany Somerset Art Weeks is also out so you can peruse listings and plan your visits to all of the amazing exhibitions and art studios throughout the county. Somerset Art Weeks runs from 21st September to 6th October but the Glastonbury Mural Trail can be enjoyed by anyone at any time and as many times as you like. This is an ongoing community project that will be added to as the years go by as a continuous celebration of some of the things that make Glastonbury such a special town to live in or visit.
We are very proud to be sponsoring the Glastonbury Mural Trail, with this stunning mural by international artist Jonathan Minshull, and a gorgeous wall mural created by fabulously talented Faye Suzannah, both painted with Thorndown Wood Paint.
The mural of the Avalon Marshes was unveiled on Tuesday 6th August at St Dunstan’s House in Glastonbury where the tourist information centre is housed.ย Theย Glastonbury Mural Trail launch partyย took place on Friday 20th September with a mural trail map specially created for the event.

So proud that we have picked up another amazing award for the design and branding of Thorndown. We were so lucky to work with a world-class team at Brown&co that got us, and understood what we wanted to achieve.
They took our dream and created a thing of beauty that fully conveys all that we and our product stands for. It’s amazing to have Thorndown and the design work recognised internationally and delighted that so many people think it’s as great as we do!
The iF DESIGN AWARD is one of the most important design prizes in the world. For 65 years, designers and manufacturers have strived to win the internationally renowned iF label for design.
Winning an iF DESIGN AWARD is a seal of quality for exceptional design and outstanding services. For consumers and users, it is a symbol they can trust. An international jury panel of 67 design experts select winners over an intensive three-day jury session in Hamburg.

Silver Pentaward
The international jury of Pentawards, the first and most prestigious worldwide competition devoted exclusively to packaging design, has announced the 2018 winners. This year, the 12th edition of the Pentawards was held at the iconic Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. On Thursday 6th September 2018, the gala ceremony played host to over 280 of the most creative, innovative and disruptive members of the global packaging design community, all winners of the 2018 competition.
We knew we had a pretty special brand but to get a Silver Pentaward is amazing! Sadly we couldn’t be in New York to pick up the award but totally stoked to have such recognition for the Thorndown brand.
The journey from concept to creation was a brilliant partnership with design agency Brown&co. We worked with some leading global talent who interpreted our dream and turned it into a striking brand that perfectly describes what we stand for.
We love what Brown&co have created and are delighted that industry leaders and customers alike love it too!
Ben from Thorndown met the marvellous Wayne Perrey on the first episode of the 2018 series of Love Your Garden. Wayne is a carpenter who specialises in making TV sets on makeover shows, in magazines and exhibitions.
This rather talented man also runs a company called The DIY Doers with business partner, Steph Bron. They share their knowledge and experience of DIY projects, helping to inspire and explain just how to do it yourself.
Wayne loved using Thorndown Wood Paints on Love Your Garden and wanted to use them on his own projects. The first was a makeover in his own garden where he transformed his shed, deck, raised beds, garden furniture, terracotta pots and a metal sculpture.
You can see how he got on by following this link to The DIY Doers YouTube channel. He’s got some great tips, techniques and general advice to share throughout the video. Hope you enjoy!
They used Cathedral Green, Cheddar Pink and Golden Somer to create pretty and eye-catching items that would compliment planting and add an attractive feature to any garden.
Two coats is all you need to create a water-repellent coating that will protect your timber product. We use high quality exterior-grade colour pigments in our paints so not only will your wood last for years, but the colour will too!
See more pictures and tips on how best to paint up timber products to get the best results on our Projects page,ย Wood Paint – Sheds – project blog.
To demonstrate how brilliant and easy our Peelable Glass Paint is to use, we have created some short clips. There are three on the Greenhouse Shading Project Page showing how to roller on and peel off the paint.
On a recent visit to Floyds Clematis & Climbers nursery we also filmed painting on greenhouse shading to his commercial greenhouse. While we were there we engaged in a little fun painting on some solid/opaque Moorland Green and Reed Green to a couple of panes, which not only look pretty but provide a stronger level of greenhouse shading against strong sun. We also enjoyed ourselves by doing some stencilling.
We hope these videos help demonstrate how to use Peelable Glass Paint for a great way to shade your greenhouse from the sun!
If you’re looking for inspiration then look at our Spare Bedroom Makeover where we used Thorndown Wood Paint on all of the woodwork for an elegant and sophisticated look.
The end of nasty old greenhouse shading paint is here!! You can now use Thorndown’s Peelable Glass Paint for greenhouse shading without the need to scrub off old paint at the end of the season.
Peelable Glass Paint is easy to apply (small radiator rollers work brilliantly) and when it’s dry you can just peel it off. Coverage is fantastic at up to 9 square meters per 750ml tin and being water-repellent, you can apply it internally or externally. Read more on our Projects blog.
