Nursery Greenhouse Shading

GREENHOUSE SHADING TIPS & VIDEOS

Greenhouses large and small can benefit with greenhouse shading from Thorndown’s Peelable Glass Paint. Commercial nurseries need serious greenhouse shading from the strength of the sun and Peelable Glass Paint makes an easy job of application and removal. When the season comes to an end and greenhouses no longer need shading from the sun, simply peel off the paint from glass panes in whole sheets!

We went to Floyds Clematis and Climbers nursery to paint greenhouse shading on to glass panes, testing out rollers and an electric sprayer. Normally we would recommend cleaning glass before painting but as this is a large working nursery, cleaning is a lot harder to do and fit in to a busy schedule. We painted the Peelable Glass Paint straight on to dirty window panes, only removing large pieces of dirt or algae that would have blocked the paint from fixing onto the glass. If glass is a bit grubby it won’t affect performance of the Peelable Glass Paint and when the coating is peeled off, the dirt will be peeled off too!

DECORATING WITH GLASS PAINT

Glass panes can be decorated with Peelable Glass Paint using stencils or freehand designs. For a commercial nursery this means you can apply decorative shading, logos and seasonal decorating. With 38 colours in the range and 1800 RAL colours available, every imaginable design can be created.

OPAQUE SHADING

To create an opaque shading coating, apply an opaque Peelable Glass Paint with a roller. The side of the pane you apply it to will have a solid finish. On the inside of the pane you will see the roller marks so if you want to make this side solid too, get the roller out and paint this side as well.

We used White Witch as shading on glass panes of the greenhouse and Moorland Green plus Reed Green to paint the solid opaque panes and decorative stencil patterns above. Adding a bit of cheeky fun we also painted on a stencil of our Thorndown logo in Bat Black and the Peelable Glass Paint crab logo in Ogre Orange. Luckily Marcel loved it and his customers did too!
