Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
and so is colour.
We all see and interpret colour slightly differently to each other, as do our computer/phone/tablet screens, graphics software and printers that we use.
The colour swatches you see on screen and on a printed colour chart are designed as a guide. The exact and final colour/hue that you see painted up at home will look slightly different depending on the material you paint it onto and the lighting. Although the paint colour will be exactly the same, the colour you see can be affected by light absorption or reflection of surfaces.
For example, the hue of a colour painted onto new smooth timber can look slightly different if painted on rough sawn timber, as rough sawn timber absorbs more light giving less of a sheen so it can look more matt and darker. If you paint up a wooden planter the colour can look different depending on the lighting and where you put it in the garden.
We always recommend trying a small sample tin of paint at home, where it's going to end up.
Our colours are made precisely using a technically engineered colour system ensuring continuity of colour throughout batches. However, as with all paints it is good practice to make sure the final paint coating all comes out of the same paint tin.
Paint Ranges
Many colours are replicated throughout and across the paint ranges so that you can paint the same beautiful colours on your walls, windows and woodwork. Although they have been carefully created so that all colours are the same, there may be slight variations between the paint ranges, as the different finishes can create a slightly different hue.
For instance, Wood Paint has a satin finish so the soft sheen makes light reflect differently than with the flat matt finish of Wall Paint, where sometimes colours can appear a little darker. Peelable Glass Paint is made entirely from the 100% recycled plastics resin that we use throughout our paint ranges and this unique paint can also affect the colour you see with the way the light reacts to the sheen of the coating, especially as light will be passing through the coloured coating on windows.
Colour Charts
Colour swatches on our paint colour charts have been painstakingly colour corrected so that the printed colour matches the painted colour as closely as possible. However, it is impossible to precisely match the colours for many reasons, as explained in full on our Colour Disclaimer.
Colour Labels
The printing process also means that although we have done all that we can to get colour labels as close to the dry paint colour coating as possible, printed colour labels won't always show you the exact paint colour.
Liquid Paint
The colour of liquid paint is lighter than that seen when the paint has dried and formed a coating.
Each coat of paint that you apply will also make the coloured coating slightly darker. Colour swatches are based on two coats of paint that has dried into a coating.
Samples
We would always recommend trying a sample pot at home and in the area or on the object that you want to paint. Sample tins are available to buy as a size option for all paint ranges in the shop.
For full product information and application advice please follow this link to Advice – Glass Paint. Below is a short summary.
- Water-based Peelable eco paint with satin finish
- Coverage – approx. 12m2 per litre
- Protect clothing as paint will stain
- Shake & Stir thoroughly before and stir during use
- Apply to clean, dry, sound, shiny surface
- Use synthetic brush, roller or sprayer. Best coating results are produced by using a roller with a foam sleeve
- Apply a nice thick coating as thin patchy coats won’t peel very easily
- Avoid the rain – allow approx. 12-24 hours drying time (depending on how hot the weather is) when painting externally before exposing to rain or high levels of humidity
as this can damage the coating
- Touch-dry in under an hour or two in fine weather. Can overcoat after approx. 4-6 hours in normal conditions. Drying time extended by cold or damp conditions.
Can be safest to leave to dry for 24 hours in poorer weather before applying 2nd coat
- One coat is enough to provide shading. A second coat will increase the solidity and colour of the coating
- Clean wet equipment with water and a spot of detergent if required. Don’t allow paint to dry in sprayer nozzles
- Dispose of responsibly. Empty tins are fully recyclable and most local authorities can dispose of leftover paint
- Remove Peelable Glass Paint by picking at a corner and peeling coating off. Coatings can dry out over time especially if in south-facing areas.
You can re-hydrate the coating by soaking with water and leaving for approx. 10 minutes before trying to peel.
Coating can be removed by a paint scraper or you can apply a fresh coat over the top of an old dry coating – leave to bond to the old coating for about 2 weeks then
peel both coats off together. Old coatings can be returned to the Thorndown factory in Glastonbury, Somerset for recycling
