Lounge in Style with Thorndown Wall Paint

Your lounge is often the room you spend the most amount of time in, relaxing with friends and family. Creating a personal haven to suit you and your lifestyle can be easily done with some paint, furniture and soft furnishings to build your perfect space.

Whether you want a calm, neutral space to chill out in, a dark and brooding atmosphere for an enveloping hug, or a bright, vivid colourful room to lift your spirits, paint colour choice is a great place to start designing your dream space.

Thorndown’s Wall Paint is available in a carefully selected and extensive colour range from warm bright colours to heritage shades. In addition there are thousands of RAL Classic & Design, BS (British Standard), NCS and Pantone C colour options and a free colour matching service to help you find that perfect shade.

The stunning flat matt finish of Thorndown Wall Paint is further elevated by the VOC free exterior grade colour pigments that give a superior and rich depth of colour that lasts for up to 10 years outside so even in direct sunlight the paint will resist colour fade for many years inside the home.

Thorndown’s Wall Paint is a high performance water-based eco paint that  contains a blend of highly durable resins (including one made from 100% recycled plastics) to create a hard-wearing cleanable coating that performs highly in lab scrub tests. Recycled waste marble further enhances the superb depth of coating that covers multiple surfaces without a primer, drying quickly in under an hour so you can get that second coat on without having to hang around for hours watching paint dry.

With virtually no VOCs or odour you can enjoy the space instantly and admire your handy work.

Below we share a couple of transformations to help inspire you.

BOUTIQUE CHIC

When Wayne Perrey and his wife were decorating their new home they took inspiration from style centres such as Soho House and some of the top interior designers.

Getting wonderful design advice from Interior Designer Lucy Gough’s ‘The Home Style Handbook’, they tried some paint samples at home before selecting 5 core Thorndown Wall Paint colours to use throughout the home, with Cow Parsley White Wall Paint in the lounge.

Being an old Edwardian house that hadn’t been touched for decades, there was a lot of prep to carry out before painting.

The walls and ceiling were re-plastered, and all other surfaces filled where necessary and sanded back for a perfectly smooth finish. When the new plaster was dry Wayne watered down the Cow Parsley White Wall Paint by 40% for a mist coat, covered the floors and windows with protective film then borrowed a friend’s professional paint sprayer for the fun part.

Wayne colour drenched the lounge in Cow Parsley White Wall Paint, covering all surfaces from the walls to ceiling, skirting boards and door, to the coving, picture rail and ceiling rose, and metal radiator. Using a sprayer he covered in two passes for a perfect, deep, rich, flawless finish.

The result is absolutely stunning as seen in pictures below. You can see the full renovation and all of the gorgeous pictures of Wayne’s home by following this link to the project page on ‘Home Renovation with Thorndown Wall Paint & Wayne Perrey’

CLUB LOUNGE

I had always dreamed of having a library to bathe myself in books, and loved the historical elegance of the old gentleman’s club style. A north facing snug presented the perfect opportunity to borrow from both of these and create a deeply rich and relaxing space.

BEFORE

A lot of work was carried out in this room before it was ready for painting. We chose the deep dark green of Yew Green Wall Paint for the picture wall and library shelving wall with the light Green Hairstreak Wall Paint on the window walls to reflect light in and create a natural transition to the garden outside.

Building floor to ceiling bookshelves along the wall would have cost thousands so instead we bought a couple of cheap bookcases online and painted them and some old bookshelves in Yew Green Wood Paint.

The wall behind and to the side of the shelves were painted in the flat matt Yew Green Wall Paint, and with the shelving installed it gave the appearance of them disappearing into and floating up the wall.

Pictures of countryside scenes and nature are perfectly complimented by the deep Yew Green Wall Paint.

AFTER

Swan White Wall Paint on the ceiling added a fresh sharp contrast to the greens and accentuated the high sloped ceiling. We used Swan White Wood Paint on the skirting boards, door and door frame as it’s highly durable but you can use our Wall Paint on all woodwork and metal (direct with no need for a primer) for the flat matt finish.

The completed room is a warm haven throughout the seasons, looking especially ‘snugly’ with a roaring fire in the deep winter months.
