Firenze Corner Arbour with Thorndown Wood Paint

Make Gardens Look Amazing with Thorndown Wood Paint

When it comes to creating a beautiful garden, if you have the budget, hiring a professional garden designer is worth every penny and more.

The difference their skill, knowledge and talent make to a space is not to be underestimated, which is why Forest Garden Products have worked with multi award-winning garden designer, Martyn Wilson, to create some truly beautiful spaces with their timber products.

This stunning garden was designed with the Firenze Corner Arbour as a centrepiece, complimented by balancing rows of the Slender Planters to each side.

Forest-Firenza-Corner-ArbourPainting a structure as large as this with so many individual elements can be time-consuming but is worth all of the effort to create a beautiful piece of garden furniture in a colour to suit you and your garden design, and at the same time you’re protecting the wood so it won’t get damaged by the weather, giving you endless years of enjoyment!

It can be a lot easier to paint before you construct getting the wood paint into every section. Minimal prep is required and below is a check list to help.

  1. sand off any rough bits
  2. remove any pressure-treatment surface residue
  3. make sure the surface is clean. Wash off any dirt with soapy water or use a pressure-washer to blast off persistent dirt or algae. Washing with a light bleach/water solution will help to kill off algae
  4. make sure timber is dry otherwise coatings won’t fix properly to the timber affecting performance and longevity
  5. check the weather to make sure rain isn’t forecast for at least 24 hours to allow plenty of time for the paint to dry and fix/bond properly
  6. apply a knotting agent or stain-blocking primer to prevent possible staining of the paint coating – or don’t worry about it and let nature take it’s course
  7. get your Thorndown Wood Paint, a brush (roller or sprayer) and paint on 2 coats for full exterior protection. A 3rd coat on horizontal surfaces will make the coating thicker and last longer as horizontal surfaces are prone to greater levels of wear than vertical surfaces

The Firenze Corner Arbour was painted with Thorndown RAL 7037 Dusty Grey Wood Paint, with the Slender Planters in Greymond. These beautiful greys perfectly compliment the Anthracite Grey slatted fencing, the warm tones of hard landscaping, and crisp greens of the planting.

Martyn Wilson says about this design “The garden was created onsite by @forestgardenltd for a family living in Worcestershire who wanted their garden to complement their beautiful newly renovated home.

Corner space often gets neglected in a garden. But with a bit of careful planning and design work, you can transform it into an eye-catching point of interest.”

It was such a success that photos of this garden adorn the front cover of Forest’s 2022 product brochure, and Martyn Wilson has designed a stunning show garden at Hampton Court Flower Show to showcase some of Forest’s timber products.
