Painting Bedrooms with Thorndown Wall Paint

The colour of your bedroom walls can define the space and create a mood that is either vibrant and invigorating, cool and contemporary, or natural and enriching.

When it comes to colour choice consider your whole environment such as the lighting, size and shape of the room, and existing furniture and soft furnishings that the wall paint colour or colours will suit.

If you’re stuck for inspiration then we have a couple of schemes below that may help, along with social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest that have endless lifestyle shots showing every design concept you could think of.

Colour charts are also a great place to start to get a feel for what colours you’re drawn to in your space. You can order our free Wall Paint colour chart with hand painted chips on by emailing studio@thorndown.co.uk so you can see exactly what the paint colour will look like.

Painting up sample pots at home either directly on the walls or on large pieces of paper that you can stick on walls and move around the space, are the perfect way to see the paint colour in a larger scale, living with it and seeing what the colour or colours look like with different lighting throughout the day. You can order 150ml sample tins from our Wall Paint shop.

Thorndown’s Wall Paint is available in a carefully selected and extensive colour range from warm bright colours to heritage shades. In addition there are thousands of RAL Classic & Design, BS (British Standard), NCS and Pantone C colour options and a free colour matching service to help you find that perfect shade.

The stunning flat matt finish of Thorndown Wall Paint is further elevated by the VOC free exterior grade colour pigments that give a superior and rich depth of colour that lasts for up to 10 years outside so even in direct sunlight the paint will resist colour fade for many years inside the home.

Thorndown’s Wall Paint is a high performance water-based eco paint that  contains a blend of highly durable resins (including one made from 100% recycled plastics) to create a hard-wearing cleanable coating that performs highly in lab scrub tests. Recycled waste marble further enhances the superb depth of coating that covers multiple surfaces without a primer, drying quickly in under an hour so you can get that second coat on without having to hang around for hours watching paint dry.

With virtually no VOCs or odour you can enjoy the space instantly and settle in for a cosy night’s sleep.

COOL & CONTEMPORARY

TV Carpenter Wayne Perrey, and his wife embarked on a major restoration of their new Edwardian home.

They selected a unified core colour palette of 5 paint colours for their entire home from Thorndown’s Wall Paint colour chart, using the beautiful off-white of Cow Parsley White Wall Paint in their lounge and principal bedroom.

Wayne used a sprayer to colour drench the room from walls, ceiling, coving and picture rails, easily done as Thorndown Wall Paint adheres well to multiple surfaces from plaster to wood and metal with no need for a primer.

The cool off-white with the classic look of bare bone china provided a perfect canvas for the bedroom, framing their art and contemporary fixtures and fittings from lighting to radiators, all bathed in light from large bay windows.

In the other two bedrooms they used the warming off-white of Whey White Wall Paint and the deep rich lush green of Marshland Green, creating a luxurious hug in a wood panelled room.

COZY UP

In another home renovation an 80’s wreck was transformed with calm and tranquil bedroom schemes that took inspiration from the green of the surrounding landscape and blues of the skies from the hilltop house.

PRINCIPAL BEDROOM

A very ugly duckling was stripped back, re-plastered and painted with Tree Lichen Wall Paint, a beautiful soft green with a hint of silvery grey, creating a calm and enriching room looking out over the green countryside scenes.

Swan White Wall Paint on the ceiling and Swan White Wood Paint on the doors and skirting boards reflected the natural light making the room appear even larger and more refreshing and nurturing.

BEFORE

A wreck of a room was turned into the lovely space shown in images above.

BEDROOM 2

The colour scheme in this room was inspired by the blues of the sky to create a tranquil and peaceful space to unwind and rest in.

Hartlake Blue Wall Paint provided the perfect enriching and inviting blue to sit behind the bed and hold art on. Axe Blue Wall Paint on the opposite wall reflected the blues taking them into a heritage sea blue with the porcelain off-white of Cow Parsley White Wall Paint on the window wall and old melamine coated built in wardrobes, completing a perfectly calming space.

Swan White Wall Paint on the ceiling kept the purity of the space and light pouring in from the windows. We used Swan White Wood Paint on the skirting boards, door and door frame as it’s highly durable but you can use our Wall Paint on all woodwork and metal (direct with no need for a primer) for the flat matt finish.

The completed room is a lovely inviting and calming place to snuggle up into bed for a perfectly dreamy night.
